2017 Focused on learning how to construct sentences. Courses were designed for students to learn up to an upper intermediate level. Study tips : In some of the files, I included a cheatsheet to help construct sentences during each class. I almost think that picking up a new language is all about repetition in the beginning. I would plug in words (subjects, verbs, objects, time, places etc) in the sentence and read it out.
2018 Focused on teaching many useful expressions after practicing basic Korean structures the year before. We reviewed basic structures whenever students had an issue recalling or new students attended the class. Some of the materials below can be challenging to read without enough contexts. They were covered during the class with active interactions, so that materials by itself would lack contents. I am more than happy to answer any questions if you leave a comment!
2019 Focused on preparing for a next year's Korean proficiency test (TOPIK) in Chicago. We are studying a Korean picture dictionary and extra study materials I prepare every week.
2020 Focusing on reviewing how to construct basic sentences and pronunciation rules for new beginner-level students. Several Korean co-teachers are in charge of leading a conversation in Korean with students in the class.

Hello everyone,
안녕하세요 여러분, I have been teaching a Korean language class since Fall 2017 at Iowa State. Monday is normally not my favorite day of a week, but my sense of responsibility for the Monday Korean class helps me make it through the day. I have been so blessed to have such amazing students in my class who are eager to learn the Korean language as well as our culture. I realized that I should create a platform for current and future students when they want to have access to all the previous study materials for overview. Also, I find it challenging to post daily expressions on several group chats of different messengers. From now on, I will be periodically posting very useful, natural Korean expressions or other learning materials I think important here on this website. In this way, not only can my students readily have access to materials, Korean learners from all the over world can also obtain information through searching. Due to the lack of preparation time, I will simply post all the raw materials and try to write an extensive reference list to each of them. For example, when skimming through the reference list and finding an expression you want to learn, you can click the expression to open/download the corresponding file. Along the way, I will provide suggested books or reading materials to help learners develop a deeper understanding of the Korean language. I hope you enjoy this Korean learning online session and all the uploaded materials! |
